Terryn - "Yucky!" (pointing to an oddly colored raisin in his oatmeal - one of those golden ones)
Nahshon - "It's not yucky. It's yummy."
Terryn - "You eat it."
Our son has become absolutely hilarious! He suddenly has added so many words to his vocabulary and puts them together in some stellar combinations. For example:
- When he is told no, he now says, "Awwwwwwww. Why?" This he learned from his sister.
- The best was last week when he got ready to play me a song on his dad's old Casio keyboard. He likes to play the pre-set songs by pushing the number buttons and then the play button. But this day, he paused before he hit play, looked over at me with his finger on the button and asked, "Are you ready?" I was rolling! I said, "Yeah." He then proceeded to hit the button and play "How Deep is Your Love" by the Beegees. Too funny!
That's right, vacation!
The kids and I are at our family beach house with my mom. We had originally planned to be gone for a week, but we shall see. :-) It may be an indefinite arrangement.
Terryn is loving the beach. Throwing rocks in the water, watching the planes fly overhead and yelling "bow" (boat) every morning about the same boat that is anchored in front of the neighbor's place. I don't think it has even moved since we've been there. Who knows what he will do when a motor becomes involved. This morning we went out and read books together on the deck lounge chairs. I had my bible and he had a stack of Dr. Suess and Dora. Then we went for a walk. He rocks!
Sydney and I have been sharing a bed the last few nights. A rare treat for her and she is loving it. It's been great to just snuggle and chat. However, last night I left the room to brush my teeth and she was out cold when I got back. Could have had something to do with it being 11pm. Hmmm. I vow to put her to bed earlier tonight. 10:30 should do :-).
Hope you all enjoy the sun this weekend! I know I will be glad to be near the water and enjoying the breeze.
A couple weeks ago, it just clicked for Terryn that there is a baby in my tummy. He would show us where the baby is and give the baby kisses.
However, a couple nights ago when we asked him where the baby was he pointed to his own tummy. Seeing him try to kiss his own tummy was hilarious!
Then this morning he kissed all our tummies. So, apparently in his mind everyone is with child. LOL!
So, Terryn (our almost 20 month old son) is in love with percussion. He will smack his hands on anything that makes a litte noise. But today he took it to a whole new level. He was helping me cook while using the cutting board, garbage bowl (thank you Rachael Ray) and our fruit/veggie basket to create some beats. Who knew eggplant could rock?
Proverbs 16:32 says, "He who is slow to anger is better then the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city."
This scripture was especially inspiring to me after a great message this last weekend from Denise Mira. She shared at our church from her book No Ordinary Child. I was totally pumped! I felt so affirmed to keep doing what I'm doing, and expect what I'm expecting from my kids. It was incredible stuff.
Needless to say, I read this scripture with a different perspective this week. I read it with my son in mind. Yes, he is only 11 months old, but God has had plans for him before he was in my womb. So, I better pay attention, expect greatness and pray, pray, pray!
What I felt God speaking to me was to be wary of giving in to the pressure to toughen my boy up. There is so much hype about boys needing to be able to tackle/fight/hold there own. But God places a much higher priority on his character. It is more important to God that Terryn has the fruits of the Spirit (including self-control) operating in his life, than whether or not he can hold the high score on a video game, do the most daring stunt or get the ball across the goal line.
I am not implying that my son should be a woose! All the things I have listed are things I want him to enjoy doing. However, it is worth nothing for him to be strong physically, if he has no regard for his behavior or those around him. There are two great men living in my house. And though one of them has yet to say many words, I pray his actions will be an oracle to those around him. God has called him to greater things!
